Liquid Coal is off the Table – Big Oil has Won!

Did somebody forget that our airplanes need fuel in the future?  Today the kerosene that we use contains all kinds of chemicals that will not burn fully in a jet engine.  With decades of flying this stuff is now present in every corner of the planet and all of it’s oceans.

Perhaps none of you have ever talked someone living and having a garden next to a busy airport (take your Bose with you if you plan to go and check).

If we are honest with our talk about clean air we should use only sythetic fuels in our airplanes until we figure out how to control the gravity (we have some ideas).   The liquid coal or natural gas are the cleanest synthetic fuels we can have.  When correctly done these fuels have a precise chemical composition, no impurities at all and the jet engine emits only CO2 and water vapor, see  www.syntroleum.com/Video/AF%20B52%20Fuel%20Test.wmv.

It is time for all involved and serious about global warming to realize that liquid fuels made of organic materials like coal are a necessity for us.  There is much more to this as you can find out if you follow the link shown later below.   The cheap demagogy against liquid coal that is used in this context is a disgrace.  While this demagogy is effective in getting votes from the least educated it will backfire on due time (Hitler was better in all demagogy anyhow).

The recently promoted and established Ethanol insustry in the USA is a scam that is starting to show some stress signs.  For more go and check the price of a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread and a pound of meat in your grocery store - and do not forget the commodity prices either.

How come, ethanol is OK but liquid coal is not?  The commonly held claims do not hold water.   The ferocity of the fight against liquid coal in the political theatre including MoveOn and many other organizations indicate that somewhere real money pouring in.  The most obvious party supporting this “kill the liquid coal” movement is the Big Oil and it’s two brainchildren: Detroit and this new Ethanol industry.   We have been drinking ethanol in one form or the other for thousands of years and we have known equally long that this drink can support burning at elevated cocentrations.   A good drink and the same time one of the best selling tools to create a false promise that ethanol could solve our fuel problems.

Unfortunately, we do not have the required excess arable land to take us to this mirage of never never land.   The 15% target as fuel for automobiles is BS and will die within a decade or two depending on how long the tax payers are willing to chip in.

The Big Oil understands this all better than anybody else.  This would in any case fit perfectly into their long term strategy.   For them “helping” the Ethanol Industry is a perfect  delay tactic as they need all the time against liquid coal they can get.  This Ethanol nonsense was anyhow free for them as the tax payers picked the tab.

In the real world Ethanol is not to be taken seriously as a solution to our energy problems. The Big Oil knew this from the beginning - for them the days of the Ethanol fuel ndustry were numbered before it was even born.  Fuel Ethanol will create a huge moral problem and solving that will keep our government busy for a long time.

The Big Oil may not be the guilty here,  provided that they did not participate in plans that converted our high schools to subsidized day care centers for our teenagers.   When they graduate most of them can not read, write nor do math at sufficient level to study in a college or university without remedial courses.

Perhaps you still wonder why during the past few decades oil companies have not built new oil refineries in the USA.   The Big Oil recognized the inevitable the arrival of an electric car already decades ago.   The last hurdle was the battery but that hurdle is now finally in history.   Detroit faught valiantly all the way against this electric thing but it’s over and they lost.   Detroit would never have built an electric car – it is too simple, too durable and especially too cheap when mass produced in less than a few years from now!   It does not use gas either and here Detroit and the Big Oil had a love affair.   For more, see http://www.galacticwind.com/eternity/Future.htm

In reality the Big Oil will not loose anything.   We still need all the oil they can find as is explained in details on the above referred galacticwind web site.

Unfortunately the meantime, the highly frustrated Congress appears not to understand large numbers any more, as someone there figured out that we must tax Big Oil for their recent totslly unjustified, huge profits.   Relatively speaking there is nothing big in these profits but that seem to be too complex issue today.   This is insane, counterproductive and we will pay a price for this stupidity - this also will be discussed soon more in another Blog by the Surfer from Terrastan, stay tuned.

NOTE 1:  The Big Oil does not own any of the liquid coal nor closely related technologies.   These belong to tiny enterprises that have been fighting for decades to survive against the Big Oil and the enormous odds.   The Big Oil has kept the price of oil low “for us” and of course that is what we want.   But they had no goodwill in their mind, one of their targets was these small enterprises working on liquid fuel technologioes.  They wanted them out and dead to pick what they wanted from their ashes – like ripe plums.   As indicated above the Big Oil has attracted some of the smartest people on the planet to their ranks now for over 100 years and they still have their final strategy intact and in place.

  3. Here is a small sample of the side of the debate we almost never hear:
Appearing before the Commons Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development last year, Carleton University paleoclimatologist Professor Tim Patterson testified, “There is no meaningful correlation between CO2 levels and Earth’s temperature over this [geologic] time frame. In fact, when CO2 levels were over ten times higher than they are now, about 450 million years ago, the planet was in the depths of the absolute coldest period in the last half billion years.” Patterson asked the committee, “On the basis of this evidence, how could anyone still believe that the recent relatively small increase in CO2 levels would be the major cause of the past century’s modest warming?”

  4. It really annoys me when people mispell the word “lose” — you wrote “loosing” when you clearly meant “losing.” It also annoys me when people claim liquid coal as a viable transportation fuel. Excuse me, but experts agree that the process of converting coal into liquid fuel would DOUBLE global warming pollution. Oh, andd while we’re heating up the planet, guess who benefits with billions of dollars in federal subsidies — BIG COAL. Yes indeed, the only thing worse than coal by the ton is coal by the gallon! It was also ironic to see you reference Hitler in your post, since it was the Nazis who pioneered the technology. Liquid coal may be “all Reich” by you, but here’s hoping others to buy your dirty logic.

  5. I love it Rob, especially your help on words “lose” and “loose”, thank you. There are much more words to fix to match the local language if you just enter the real site on topic…
I am a little saddened though that you did not stick enough to your science classes. You preferred the mantra from a Piper and that is what you told me. It is like a religion, it sinks in and then gets repeated forever. However, out here in the real world of lions. tigers, wolfs and snakes we must respect the laws of Nature. These are funny laws as they do not care what we think, they just execute if we make an error and that will be the last thing we ever see. You will find the real answers for global warming from the four “theories” tagged through the site http://www.galacticwind.com to global warming. The Mantra that you follow is like the ones from lobbyists in Congress. Unfortunate to all of us the history of the planet earth will repeat itself and within the next 50 years we will get the ice shelf from greenland down, then within another 50 years the one from Antarctica does the same. When completed we get into a rapid cooling period. The meantime the ocean levels are already up some 60 to 80 meters, and that is the reality that your Piper did not dare to tell you. It is not the CO2 that we must fear most the CO2 can actually help us. It is the too early ending of the He to C and Fe reaction that we must fear most. Time is already running out for us to make a permanent fix to our water and weather problems. While we still may have a shot, the likelihood of getting politics in play this game on time is close to zero. But no big deal, as some 80,000 years later the a little more refined human species will try it once again…
